Piano Recital Preparation Tips
Preparing for Piano Recitals
Recitals are a great way to mark your progress as a piano student. It isn’t about competition but rather an opportunity to gauge your personal progress. Recitals also provide your friends and family a chance to hear and see you perform your favorite music. B&B Music Lessons provides private piano students in DC, MD and VA with recitals every winter and spring at the Strathmore Mansion in Bethesda, MD.
Performing in public is no easy task, but there are ways to improve your odds of playing at your full potential. Proper preparation is the key to a good performance. Choose your piece of music early enough to give yourself adequate time to learn the material thoroughly. There should be no doubt in your mind that you gave yourself every chance to learn your music. Commit your music to memory if possible so that you can focus on the subtleties of the piece as you play it.
The best thing you can do just before and during your performance is RELAX. Relaxation is key to performing any instrument, and piano is no exception. Both beginner piano students as well as more advanced students need to focus on remaining relaxed during performing their recitals. Your body saves energy by not working as hard and allows for better control and accuracy to the fingertips without excessive tension. As a parent of a young performer, it is a good idea to make it clear that recitals are not competitive and performers are all ‘winners’ by simply participating.
