Why I work well with kids?
I have been playing music for over sixteen years and teaching lessons for five. I come from a family eight and began my teaching experience by teaching my music to my five younger siblings. I have had experience working with children in daycare settings, camps, and baby-sittings for over eight years. I work great with kids because I’m a creative person and I have a engaging sense of humor. If you can keep kids laughing and learning, then everyone is happy. My music philosophy is that music is a great way for people to build confidence, learn, and engage the world.

A bit more about Stephanie’s approach to teaching: I teach theory and music. It needs to be entertaining so the kids will want to learn. Because a major component for being successful is practicing on your own time. So, if the lessons are too rigorous and wrought with theory then the kids lose interest. I like to teach theory, technique, and music all in conjuction. The music is what they need to stay interested in the lessons and I sneak the rest in. In order for them to be good it’s necessary to know everything from the proper way to hold your hands, fingering (which i see as the most important thing), and difference between dominant and sub-dominant. I try to teach the music fully, so that if someone decided to pick up a new instrument they only thing they are learning is the skills for that instrument.
