Why I work well with kids?
Im an energetic young college student who loves working with kids. I can make children feel comfortable as who they are. I’m a genuine and truthful person and kids can sense that.

Rick is a music teacher and gigging musician living in Washington DC. Originally from Philadelphia, he moved to the District in the fall of ’05. When not giving lessons with B&B Music Lessons, Rick can be seen drumming with Taking Saturn, an original rock band, and The Atomic Swing Club, a rockabilly/jazz outfit. He also helps run “We Jam”, an after-school program affiliated with The Washington Jazz Arts Institute. Rick teaches drums, percussion, piano and guitar.

Why I work well with kids?
I come from a family of teachers and I grew up working with kids as a lifeguard at a local lake. I’ve been with B&B off and on for 3 years now and have had dozens of children students in the DC area. I try to make lessons as ‘kid friendly’ as possible.

Why I work well with kids?
I love kids! Being around kids makes me happy and I hope I can make them feel the same. I respect children and I know that I have so much to learn from them. Music changed my life and gave me something to be proud of, and I want every kid to feel that too!

Why I work well with kids?
I work well with kids because I have also started learning the piano at a very young age. I understand what a child’s is going through at different ages, and how he or she learns music and processes all the new information.
Most importantly, I very much enjoy teaching music to young children and working with them to achieve whatever goals they have. It puts a smile on my face every time my students feels a sense of accomplishment and displays the eagerness to play.

Why I work well with kids?
I would describe my teaching style as a means in which students can be completely contented to learn music notation, vocal, instrumental, and ear-training skills, and be able to perform the music professionally and expressively. Having taken classical piano lessons for 9 years, I took up the guitar in high school and went on to graduate from Berklee College of Music. Since I’ve taken music lessons since I was 6, I try look at teaching lessons from the student’s perspective. I can sympathize with youngsters aggravations when learning music. I like to have my students tell me their goals and aspirations so I can merely guide them, rather than provide a strict regiment of coursework (though I could do that too). Students really respond to this, because they feel more in control of their learning. I also have a lot of patience with struggling students but can be firm when things deviate from the lesson. Overall, I try to make the discovery of music enjoyable, otherwise they could become repulsed by another weekly routine comparable to school.

Why I work well with kids?
I’m fun to be around and kids seem to resonate with that. We make sure to progress on the instrument while still making it about playing and enjoyment. Teaching for over ten years now to all ages has helped in being able to design a unique lesson based on each individual.
