Q. Is the violin or the piano better for a 5 year old beginner?

Written by Bhagwan on February 20th, 2010. Posted in Ask The Music Expert, Parent Tips

Hello Jennifer,

Piano is definitely the best instrument to start music lessons for younger children.  The piano is much more accessible to young children, as the notes are very easy to play.  The violin or the guitar require two hands to produce a note or a chord which can be difficult for youngsters.
We generally recommend weekly lessons for children, although we have a very flexible program and you’re welcome to try alternate weeks.  Also, our program is flexible so you can skip a lesson anytime, as long as you provide us with at least 24 hours notice.

Please let me know your thoughts on this and we’ll be happy to get things started.

We look forward to hearing back from you soon!
